Transitional Age Youth at Parent Information Network

Message from TAYatPIN Coordinator

 Welcome to the PTAY website!

If you are a parent or caregiver of a youth ages 14 to 25 who has behavioral, emotional, and/or mental health challenges, you are in the right place!

As PTAY Coordinator and the mother of teenagers, we have much in common! As I navigate my childrens’ transitions to adulthood, I hope I can help you to do the same.

If you are like me, you are wondering what life will be like for your teenager after high school. The dream of a traditional college experience has been interrupted by the reality of life. But that doesn’t mean that post-secondary education is out of the picture; it’s just going to be different than I expected.

The PTAY program at PIN is here to help you realize that life for our children is different, but that’s ok. There are many resources and opportunities for them to be happy and successful in their adult lives. We may have to think outside the box and come up with some creative ideas. This website is packed with information and links to resources that will help you guide your son or daughter and make choices that will work for them and for you.

I realize that transition is like a puzzle with many pieces: post-secondary education, transportation, independent living, employment and the list goes on. There are so many pieces to this puzzle sometimes it seems like it won’t come together. It will, in time, but we need to start one piece at a time and work towards completing that puzzle. Once it is complete we can let go and lead our children into their adult life. Don’t get me wrong, letting go is a scary thing that we all have to face and there will be many questions along the way. I hope this website helps you find many answers—but if you don’t find the information you are looking for, please let me know and we will find it together and get the answers you need.

You will find through the PTAY program the opportunity to connect with other parents, make a friend, share a tear, a laugh, swap ideas, and we will all get through this together. My most important job as PTAY Coordinator is to support you—the parents—so please do not hesitate to contact me—I am always here to help in any way I can!
